Summary

  • Witches meet on the heath and gossip
  • Witches tell Macbeth that he is going to become Thane of Cawdor and then king
  • Witches tell Banquo that he won’t be king but his kids will be
  • Macbeth and Banquo think that they are hallucinating until Rosse and Angus walk in
  • Rosse and Angus tell Macbeth that he is going to be Thane of Cawdor
  • Macbeth is like ‘OMG the witches didn’t lie’
  • Macbeth starts plotting that he will kill Duncan and become king.
  • Then Macbeth thinks that maybe he should just wait and leave it to fate

Quote

The last bullet-point is supported by the quote:

“If Chance will have me king, why, Chance may

crown me,

Without my stir” – Macbeth (1.3.157-159)

This means that if Chance/fate will eventually have him made king then it will and he will not have to kill Duncan.

Sidenote – this would be a really good idea for Macbeth, he should not kill the king!
